Blog Post # 142 – Tracking & Measuring

We don’t want to think about our weight too much, so we don’t get on a scale.

We don’t want to think about our debts too much, so we don’t track our spending.

We don’t want to think about our strength too much, so we don’t monitor our exercise habits.

Measurement. The power of measurement.

It is certainly easier to coast along.

To think about all of the great exercise we are going to do tomorrow.

To think about all of the money we are going to make tomorrow.

To think about the awesome diet we will start tomorrow.

But measuring and tracking the things that we do today gives us tremendous power.

Measuring and tracking gives us a benchmark, a measuring stick, a way to track progress.

We avoid measuring and tracking when we aren’t performing as well as we would like.

Easier to ignore our poor performance when we aren’t committing it to writing.

But isn’t it easier to control doing the right things, consistently, and tracking them while letting go of the results?

Stated another way, tracking and measuring allows us to be present in the moment and to do the right thing right now so as to positively affect our future.

The spotlight of measurement impacts our performance.

For today, let’s keep track of the things that are important. Everything else should work itself out.
